Resize an Image for Discord

Avatars, server icons and custom emoji, the right Discord dimensions and the size limits that trip people up.

The quick answer

For Discord, use 128×128px for your avatar (displayed small, so keep it simple), 512×512px for a server icon, and 128×128px under 256KB for a custom emoji. Resize to the exact pixels and compress emoji under the size limit. Our Resize and Compress tools do it in your browser.

Discord image requirements
User avatar128 × 128 px (displays small)
Server icon512 × 512 px
Custom emoji128 × 128 px, under 256 KB
Server banner960 × 540 px (16:9)

How to do it

  1. 1

    Pick what you're making

Avatar 128×128, server icon 512×512, emoji 128×128, or banner 960×540.

  2. 2

Crop square (or 16:9 for banner)

Use Crop Image so the subject fills the frame: avatars and icons are circles/rounded.

  3. 3

    Resize to the pixels

Set the exact size in Image Resizer.

  4. 4

    Compress emoji under 256KB

Custom emoji must be under 256KB: run Compress if yours is over.

Discord tips
  • Avatars display tiny: a bold, simple image reads far better than a detailed one.
  • Custom emoji have a hard 256KB limit. A transparent PNG usually fits after compression.
  • Use a transparent background so emoji and icons sit cleanly on any theme.
