What is Favicon?

A favicon is the small square icon that represents a website: shown in the browser tab, bookmarks and history. It's typically a simple logo or letter exported at tiny sizes (16, 32 and 48 pixels) so it stays legible when shrunk.
- Favicons are tiny, so a simple, high-contrast mark reads far better than a detailed logo.
- Modern browsers accept PNG (and SVG) favicons: the old.ico format is no longer required.
- You add it to a page by referencing the file in the HTML head with a link rel="icon" tag.
