What is Meta description?
A plain-English definition, and the tools that work with it.
A meta description is a short HTML tag summarising a page's content. Search engines often show it as the snippet under your title in results, so a clear, unique description acts like ad copy. It doesn't directly boost rankings but strongly affects whether people click.
- Keep it around 150–160 characters so Google doesn't truncate it in results.
- Make each one unique and specific to the page. Duplicate descriptions waste the opportunity.
- Write it to earn the click, describe what the page delivers, not a keyword-stuffed list.
