My image must be under an exact size (100KB, 50KB, 2MB)

Upload forms often set a hard cap, 100KB, 50KB, sometimes 2MB. How to do it to hit an exact size without endless trial and error.

The quick answer

When a form demands a specific limit (under 100KB, 50KB or 2MB) use the compressor's Target size mode: enter the limit and it binary-searches the highest quality that fits, so you don't guess with a slider. Our Image Compressor does this in your browser. For very small targets on a large photo, also resize the pixels down.

How to fix it

Follow these steps and you'll have it sorted in a couple of minutes.

  1. 1

    Open the Image Compressor

Drop your image in, it's processed in your browser, never uploaded.

  2. 2

    Switch to Target size mode

Pick a preset (50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB) or type your exact limit in KB.

  3. 3

    Compress to the target

The tool finds the highest quality that lands under your limit and reports the actual size.

  4. 4

Resize if the target is tiny

Aiming for 20KB on a big photo? Also reduce the pixel dimensions, or switch to WebP, to get there cleanly.

Common mistakes to avoid
  • Guessing with a quality slider when a target-size mode hits the exact limit for you.
  • Trying to force a huge, high-resolution photo under 20KB by quality alone: resize the dimensions down too.
  • Compressing to 50KB when the limit is 2MB, throwing away quality you didn't need to lose.
