What is Transparency (alpha)?
Also known as Transparency (alpha).
Transparency (the alpha channel) is the part of an image that has no color, letting whatever is behind it show through. A transparent PNG of a cut-out subject can be placed on any background, a color, a photo, or a web page.
- PNG, WebP and SVG support transparency. JPG does not. Save a cut-out as PNG to keep it.
- Removing a background produces a transparent image so the subject can sit on any new backdrop.
- Saving a transparent image as JPG fills the empty area with a solid color, losing the cut-out.
